Bradley Hughes Commercial Biography

The principal of Melange Computing, Mr Bradley Hughes, has many years of commercial experience in IT and six years of commercial experience providing Internet services. His first employment in the computing industry was in 1983, performing administration, marketing and retail duties for a successful computer store at the age of 12. Involvement in the IT industry has continued apace since then.

Bradley has a strong interest in new media, animation, digital technologies, fiction and story-telling, Internet and computer networking technologies and entrepreneurial activities. Sustainability, sustainable development and sustainable living are increasingly becoming key areas of interest and concern.

Currently Bradley is an independent IT and Internet consultant, keeping busy working on the following:

• Small to medium size ($500 to $50,000) business website projects
• Search Engine Marketing (SEM) Strategies
• Search Engine Optimisation / Optimization (SEO) Campaigns
• Affiliate Marketing Management
• Marketing database development projects

University of Technology, Sydney

Bradley studied information technology and computing science at the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) from 1989 to 1996. He worked for UTS between 1991 and 1995 in various capacities, including computer laboratory supervision and support, computer hardware and software pre-sales consultant, IT desktop services support consultant, library IT services support consultant and library webmaster.

Notable achievements included development of the UTS Library's first website and full software roll-out of MS Office and Eudora email software on both Macintosh and PC systems for over 120 library staff.

Arrakis Internet Services

After a brief stint as Sales and Marketing Manager for Next Online (Rolling Stone Australia's Internet start-up) in late 1994 and early 1995, Bradley established Arrakis Internet Services Pty Ltd, with two other partners. Arrakis was one of the first twenty or so commercial ISPs providing dial-up access and website hosting in Sydney.

Notable achievements at Arrakis included:

• Project management and lead web developer to publish the entire contents of the 1996 UTS Faculty Handbooks and Calendar on the university website, complete with search engine and subject number cross-referencing. This was a website with over 7,500 pages. Seven people worked on this project.
• Ongoing development and maintenance of the UTS library website during 1995 and 1996.
• Production of the Sheraton Sydney Airport Hotel website (no longer trading).
• Production of the Sheraton Asia Pacific Human Resources job listings website from 1997 to 2001 (subsequently centralised to Starwood's Singapore HR department).
• Production of the first edition of the Asian Paradises and Pacific Island Paradises magazine websites (subsequently redeveloped in ColdFusion by IT3).
• Ongoing development, maintenance and hosting of the "Quit Now - National Tobacco Campaign" website from 1997 to 2001.
• Managing Director of Arrakis Internet Services from March 1999 to June 2001.
